What is Bluetooth?

Bluetooth is a wireless protocol for exchanging data over short distances from fixed and mobile devices.

Bluetooth technology is how mobile phones, computers, and Personal Digital Assistants (PDA's), printers and speakers, can be easily connected using this short-range wireless connection. Now you can leave the clutter and confusion from wires behind.

Bluetooth technology can handle both data and voice transmissions at the same time. For example, you could enjoy a hands-free chat on your mobile phone while sending a document wirelessly to a Bluetooth enabled printer or fax machine. It also allows you to connect your PDA, laptop, and mobile phone to each other.

Bluetooth communicates on a frequency of 2.45 gigahertz, which has been set aside by international agreement for the use of industrial, scientific, and medical devices (ISM). A number of devices that you may already use take advantage of this same radio-frequency band. Baby monitors, garage-door openers and cordless phones all make use of frequencies in the ISM band.
