Using an SD card - moto z3

Using an SD card on the moto z3

Whether its images, music, videos or applications we know that the most important stuff on people's phones is stored in the user memory. The moto z3 allows you to expand your memory by using a micro SD card.

To insert a memory card:

  1. Insert the tool into the hole in the tray and gently push to pop it out.

  2. Insert or remove the cards as needed.

  3. Push the tray back into the phone.

You can move media from internal phone storage to your SD card, easily remove the card to transfer content to other devices, view the storage space available, and erase all content to start fresh.

Move media from phone to SD card

To free up internal storage on your phone:

  1. Be sure you've inserted and set up your SD card.
  2. Go to Settings > Storage.
  3. Select your SD card.
  4. Touch Image > Storage settings > Move media.
  5. Check the boxes for types of media to move (pictures, movies, music).
  6. Touch Move.

Tip: You can set the camera to store all new photos and videos on the SD card.

Remove SD card

Drag the SD card notification down, and touch Eject.

If you don't see the notification:

  1. Go to Settings > Storage.
  2. Next to your SD card name, touch Image.

It's now safe to remove the card from the phone.

To insert the card into another device (computer, projector, etc.), you may need the adapter that came with your card. See device manufacturer's instructions for the type of adapter required and insertion instructions.

Erase SD card

  1. Go to Settings > Storage.
  2. Select your SD card.
  3. Touch Image > Storage settings > Format.
  4. Touch Erase & format.
  5. Touch Done.

Before you begin, consider that:

  • Only future files will be encrypted. Existing files are not.
  • Files on your SD card will only be viewable on this device, and you will not be able to access them if you move your SD card to another device.
  • You will not be able to decrypt the files in order to view them on another device when moving your SD card.

To encrypt your SD card:

  1. Go to Settings > Security & Location.
  2. Touch Encryption & credentials > Encrypt SD card.
  3. If prompted, change your screen lock to PIN or Password.
