Screen lock options on the moto x2

The moto x2 has several different screen lock options available. To access your lock options, touch Apps > Settings  > Security & Screen Lock.

Screen Lock Options

• None - No screen lock options will be set on your device.
• Slide - provides no protection, but lets you get to the Home screen quickly.
• Face Unlock - lets you unlock your phone by looking at it.  This option is less secure than a pattern, PIN or password.
• Pattern - lets you draw a simple pattern with your finger to unlock the phone. 
• PIN - requires four or more numbers. Longer PINs are more secure.
• Password - requires four or more letters or numbers. This is the most secure option, as long as you create a strong password.

Important Note: If some of the above options are grayed out, your IT administrator may have disabled some of these options.

Lock Screen timers

• Sleep timer - turns off the device display to extend battery life. You can turn the display on and swipe to unlock.

• To adjust the Sleep timer setting go to Settings > Display > Sleep > Select desired time frame.

• Automatic lock timer - turns on security features like pin, pattern, password or face unlock and protects the device from unknown users.  Automatic lock timer begins after the Sleep timer expires.  You will be asked to enter personally recognizable data like pin, pattern, password or the face unlock when the display is powered on.

• To adjust the Automatic lock timer setting go to Settings > Security & Screen Lock > Automatically lock > Select desired time frame.

• If you are using facial recognition to turn on the device and do not want the Slide to unlock feature to appear, set the Automatic lock timer to 5 seconds.

Note: The Power button instantly locks option will only show after a screen lock option (other than Slide) has been set.

Forgot PIN or pattern

As a security measure, if you forgot the pattern to unlock your device or your PIN is not working, you will need to reset your device.  However, if you forgot or are unsure about your Google password, but you remember your Gmail / Google account name, you can use a computer to access the Gmail account and Gmail will send a link to reset your account password to another one of your email accounts.

Follow steps below to reset Gmail password for your handset with your computer:

1. Please use a computer to visit http://www.gmail.com. 
2. From the Gmail login page click on the "Can't access your account?" link
3. Check I forgot my password and check Visit our password recovery page.
4. Enter your Google/Gmail address (including "@gmail.com").  Click Submit.
5. Copy text from random captcha and enter into field.
6. A reset password link and directions will be emailed to the back-up email account you established during initial Gmail set-up on your computer. Follow the directions to reset your Gmail password.
7. Once your login information is recovered, use that information to unlock the handset when asked for your Gmail credentials again on the device screen.

Trusted devices (Android 4.4)

This feature will allow your phone to remain unlocked while connected to Bluetooth devices that you trust. If you disconnect or get too far away, the device will lock once again. 

• Pair your phone with a Bluetooth device, and select Trusted Device when prompted.
• You can choose to lock manually in the notification screen - swipe down from the top of your screen and select Lock Screen.
• Your power key will not automatically lock when you are connected to a trusted device.

Trusted Devices (Android 5.1)

This feature will allow your phone to remain unlocked while connected to Bluetooth devices that you trust. You can also set your phone to unlock when it touches an NFC tag.

To add a trusted Bluetooth device or NFC tag:

1. Touch Apps  > Settings > Security.
2. Touch Smart Lock (If Smart Lock does not appear go to Settings > Security > Trust agents > Toggle Smart Lock (Google) on).
3. Touch Trusted devices >  + Bluetooth or NFC.
4. Make the Bluetooth accessory discoverable or tap the NFC tag to the device. 
5. Add a name for the connected device and touch OK

Smart Lock (Android 5.1)

Smart locks allows you to keep your device unlocked when it's clear that you have your device with you - for example when it's connected to your Bluetooth watch, or when it recognizes your face.

Screen pinning

You can enable your device to only display a certain app screen while Screen pinning is in use.  Screen pinning can be useful if you want to play a game without accidentally minimizing the app if you touch the Home button.

To pin a screen:

1. Touch Apps > Settings > Security.
2. Touch Smart Lock (If Smart Lock does not appear go to Settings > Security > Trust agents > Toggle Smart Lock (Google) on).
3. Open an app. Touch the Recents key 
4. Touch the pin icon at the bottom of the screen.
   
   
5. To exit from the pinned screen, touch and hold Back  and Recent  keys at the same time.

Power button instantly locks

This option will automatically lock the device when the display is on and the power button is pressed.  The Power button instantly locks option will only show after a screen lock option (other than Slide) has been set.

To activate the Power button instantly locks setting, go to Settings > Security & Screen Lock > select Power button instantly locks.

Important note: Your phone may contain security policies set by your IT administrator which may override any settings you attempt to set under screen security. For example, if you set your phone to automatically lock after 30 minutes and phone locks after 10 minutes, it may be due to security policies set by your IT Administrator.  Please contact your IT Admin for more information.
