Casting to your screen

Casting to your TV is a simple way to enjoy your favourite apps optimized for the big screen.
 
Before you begin casting
 
  1. Connect your mobile device to a Wi-Fi network.
     
  2. The mobile device you are using to cast must be on the same Wi-Fi network as your Chromecast or TV with Chromecast built-in.
     
  3. You must be running the latest version of the Chromecast-enabled app. You can always double check that you are on the latest version by visiting the Google Play Store and checking for any app updates.
 
Cast from Chromecast-enabled apps to your TV
 
  1. Make sure the phone you are using to cast is on the same Wi-Fi network as your Chromecast or TV with Chromecast built-in.
     
  2. Open a Chromecast-enabled app.
     
  3. Tap Cast Image 
    Tip: Cast button location will vary across apps.

     
  4. Tap the device you'd like to cast to.
     
  5. When you're connected, the Cast button will turn solid Image, letting you know you're connected.
     
  6. You can now cast videos, movies, and TV shows directly to your TV.
     
  7. To stop casting, tap the Cast Image > Disconnect

Cast your screen from the Google Home app

View content from your mobile device on your TV when you cast your Android screen.
This feature is only available on devices running Android 8.0 or later.
 
Cast your screen
 
  1. Make sure your phone is on the same Wi-Fi network as your Chromecast device.
     
  2. Open the Google Home app
     
  3. Tap Favourites  or Devices 
     
  4. Touch and hold the tile of the device you want to cast your screen to.
     
  5. Tap Cast Image > Cast screen
Miracast is not supported

Fix a problem - After each step, see if your issue is fixed.
 
Check the basics
  1. If you’re using a VPN, turn off the VPN and try again.
     
  2. Make sure your phone and Chromecast or smart TV are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
     
  3. Move your phone to within 15 feet of your Chromecast or smart TV.
     
  4. If you're using Chromecast or a TV with Chromecast built-in, check for updates to the Home app.
Phone can't find smart TV
First, check the basics. Then:
  1. On the TV, open the app and start a video. Then on your phone, open the app and try casting to the TV again.
     
  2. Link the app on your phone to the app on the TV:
     
    • On your phone, open the app, open its settings, and look for options to watch on TV. (For example, YouTube >  > Settings > Watch on TV > Link with TV code.)
       
    • Follow the app’s onscreen instructions to complete setup.
       
  3. Reboot your Wi-Fi router.
     
  4. Check your TV for firmware and app updates. See the TV manufacturer’s support website for information.
     
  5. Check your TV manufacturer’s support website to make sure the app is still supported on your TV model.
