Driving

Moto Assist makes use of a number of sensors on the phone to figure out if you’re driving.  Specifically, we look at accelerometer and location data to determine if you’re driving.  Moto Assist cannot figure out if you’re the driver vs a passenger, and may sometime mistakenly think you’re driving when on a bus, train or riding a bike.  It may take Moto Assist up to a couple minutes to figure out that you’re driving after you have started.

Important Note: Location Access needs to be enabled for Driving to work correctly. Go to Settings > Location Access > Ensure Access  to my location is ON.

Tips:

  • Assist will learn your car’s Bluetooth and will automatically start drive mode when it sees your phone connected to it
  • Your phone will announce callers and read text messages out loud, whenever you phone detects you are driving,  if you have the Talk to me feature selected. Uncheck Talk to me to disable.
  • Custom voice reply allows you to dictate a text reply using voice in drive mode
  • Talk to me in Moto Assist only announces callers or reads text messages from people whom you have in your address book on your phone. If your phone calls are not being announced or your text messages are not being read, ensure that the sender/caller is added to People in your phone.
  • If the device is paired and connected to a Bluetooth device, Assist will yield to the BT device to handle incoming phone calls. You should use the BT device’s built-in call announce feature (if available) to handle incoming calls if you BT device supports this feature.
    • If you are not hearing calls being announced:
      1. Launch Assist
      2. In the driving card, select the "Talk to me" details (press the > next to Talk-to-me)
      3. Select "Having audio issues using Bluetooth?"
      4. Select "Alternate audio channel"

Meeting

Moto Assist looks at your calendar to figure out if you are in a meeting.  Moto Assist follows a complex set of rules to filter out things on your calendar that may not actually be a meeting (eg birthdays, reminders, etc). We consider the user to be in a meeting if the calendar event:

  • is from a calendar visible on device
  • is from a calendar that you are the owner
  • has been accepted
  • is not deleted
  • is not cancelled
  • is not all day (all day event box checked) or duration < 24

Tips:

Meetings where you’re marked as “Available” will not trigger meeting mode

To customize your auto-reply in meeting mode; Go to Assist > Meeting> Auto ReplyEnter your personalized message > OK

Meeting mode silences the notification and ringer audio streams. Bluetooth headsets play through the media stream and phone streams. Bluetooth headsets may also have separate experiences for incoming calls or SMS. Accordingly, the Bluetooth headset may still play audio in a Meeting. You can manually adjust this feature by following the steps below:

  • Announced Calls:
    • Go to Settings > Bluetooth > Select your Bluetooth device’s settings button > Uncheck “Phone audio”. You will need to undo this setting after the meeting if they you want the Bluetooth device to continue to handle incoming calls and call audio.
  • Media:
    • Go to Settings > Sound > Volumes > Drag the “Music, video, games, & other media” slider to zero (far left). You will need to undo this setting after the meeting. Please note that all media, even on device media, will be silenced.

Sleeping

When you configure the Sleep activity in Moto Assist, a part of the configuration is to set your sleep times. However, certain callers can still get through if needed.

Tips:

  • Changing the volume of the phone un-silences the phone when it is in Sleep mode. Manually silence your phone again, the phone will silence itself the next day.

  • Sleep Mode silences the notification and ringer audio streams, so that if you are playing media or have alarms set in the morning, that audio will not be muted.
